Suboxone Doctor in Miami: Dr. Mitchell’s Clinic

America’s #1 Addiction
by Dr. Robert Ben Mitchell, D.O. - 786-262-5750

Whenever “addiction” comes up, several things come to mind: oxycodone, heroin, fentanyl, and methamphetamine to name a few. Yet, while we all talk about addiction, what is it?

The simplest definition of addiction is this: dysfunctional habit. An addiction is dysfunctional because it hurts us instead of helping us. An addiction is also a habit because we repeat it over and over, even though it’s hurting us. So, it’s easy to see why using oxycodone, heroin, fentanyl, and methamphetamine, when there’s no medical need, is a dysfunctional habit. And though these type of drugs can become deadly habits, are any of them the #1 addiction in America?

While anything can turn into a addiction - drugs, food, alcohol, tobacco, sex, work, etc. - it turns out that the #1 dysfunctional habit in America is television in all its forms: movies, series, videos, social media and gaming to name a few. As a country, we waste hours watching screens that provide us no real value while they steal our time, attention and energy. In essence, television is the opiate of the masses.

So maybe it’s time to think not just about the drugs in our lives, but all of our dysfunctional habits, including America’s #1 addiction: television.
